Teenage hormones! Is there a more difficult mystery to solve?

Is there a good way to approach this subject? If there is, please fill me in! At one of the most emotional and transformational times of our lives we contend with so many changes. So, let’s try and understand them.

Starting at the age of 7 or 8 our bodies start to produce hormones. As these hormones take hold you’ll notice changes in emotions, mood, behavior, and sexual feelings. Changes such as growing taller, putting on muscle mass and weight are also changes which can be noticeable.

What are these hormones?

At the beginning of puberty our brain releases a hormone called gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) which triggers the pituitary gland to secrete follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) into your bloodstream.

These affect girls and boys differently. In girls FSH and LH begin the production of estrogen and eggs from the ovaries. In boys they produce the testosterone and sperm.

In simple terms the changes in our mood are just fluctuations of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, but the feelings caused by these fluctuations can lead to anxiety or anger as we try to control impulses and feelings that are being controlled by substances in our body. It is also the time when we are trying to discover who we are in the world from personal values to sexuality.

Supporting our teenagers through this time can be ….. challenging, see how I didn’t swear? We really do need to let them work a lot of it out on their own but if we could set up a natural support system that’s working away in the background it might make our lives easier.

What’s the most important thing for a teenager?

How they look! Well in my experience anyway. Acne is a very common problem that can occur when our testosterone levels fluctuate. I’m sure we have all heard of tea tree being good for this, but can you imagine what pure Tea Tree oil can do? Lavender is also a must have for acne! Both oils including a few more are included in the Acne cream which helps regenerate the skin to help with scaring but also to help with the pain and irritability. Some green clay is also a great tool to have, which when mixed with water helps naturally dry out the area.

How does this effect gender differently?

For Men we are dealing mainly with testosterone, which can actually change from hour to hour! Oils like Mister, Black pepper and Fennel can be added to shower gels or shampoos. They can be made into a spray and applied to linens. They don’t always need to be applied to the body. Although this would help it into the bloodstream quicker. These oils help bring back natural balance, reducing the highs and lows making the world an easier place. Our beard oil for example is filled with hormone balancing oils, its also great for mental stability if you’ve reached the facial hair stage!

In women a main point of support would be our menstrual cycle. Each week of the month we can be a completely different person. Side note, this is something I’m looking into as working to your strengths on each given week is said to be life changing! Stay tuned for that!

One of the oils which is great for a general support in reduction of mood swings and emotional dips is Dragon Time. This is a blend that includes Clary Sage and fennel, so the hormone balancers are there. This is a great oil to use in a massage.  Fennel is also great for helping with menstrual cramp pain! There is a monthlies oil you can purchase on the website which when applied to the abdomen with heat it a must have.

Menstrual headaches can be eased with peppermint, this also helps with any sweating which can increase during this time. If you have Lemon handy it can boost your mood. A few drops in your hands, rub them together and take deep breaths in the morning. There’s no better way to start your day, whether you’re a teen or not!

For their sake, and ours!

Let’s try a natural solution.
